Rainy Days Outfit Proposal #2 ( How To Wear A Side Braid?)

Here comes another outfit proposal for rainy days. The gorgeous building behind me was build in 1898. I'm always enthusiastic about historical building and if I remember well, with this one it was love at first sight. Besides being my favourite historical building in Mostar, this place is also one of Mostar's high schools known as Old Gymnasium or Mostar Gymnasium. In addition, within this building (apart from this high school/gymnasium) you can also find United Worlds College. UWC describes itself as a global movement for education and they have collages all over the world. I'm not sure about how many students this UWC collage has, but the students seem to come from all parts of the world, a really mixed bunch, so I imagine that studying in such an international institution must be fun. The reason why I often hang out here is another institution and that's American corner. First thing that any bookworm does when he or she moves to a new town is to find out where all the libraries are. That is what I did when I moved to Mostar many years ago. I visit the library in American corner fairly often. If you are an ex pat living in Mostar and are looking for a nice library, I can totally recommend this place. You can see more photographs of this beautiful historical building here and here.

The quality of these photographs isn't so great, but I choose not to edit them because I'm not sure how to go about it. I'm not very good with editing. As I said, I don't really plan my outfit posts. It's more a case of 'my husband sometimes takes my photographs and I sometimes publish them'.  As you might have noticed, most of the time I publish outfits I wear for everyday outings, not very glamours events. In this case, I went to return A Painted House by John Grisham to the library.

Obviously, I didn't notice that I was holding this book (or the covers) upside down when we took these photographs. I did read it, it's not a prop for photography purpuses. If you want to read my review of this book, you can do so here.  Bittersweet and nostalgic, this novel isn't typical Grisham. As a historical fiction, it works quite well. I thought the plot has some weaknesses, but nothing major. I read it back in January and I quite liked it. I do like Grisham's simple but descriptive style of writing.I think that is what makes his books so suitable for movie adaptations.

coat: Bajina bašta, boots: Šimecki, leggings/bag/turtleneck: old

Seeing these photographs, I keep wondering about what was under my coat. I don't mean that in a weird exhibitions way. I just don't remember what skirt I wore over these leggings. I think I wore a denim skirt over these leggings, but I can't tell for sure since I didn't take any photographs without my coat that day. I always wear something over leggings and most of the time, it's a skirt. I  already shared an almost identical on the blog (bad, bad blogger that I am I sometimes repeat outfits), so I won't comment on in. All I'm going to say is that I love this hairdo. A little side braid is simple enough to learn, won't take away much time from you and  it can add something extra special to your look. I hardly ever think of hairdos as a way to enhance an outfit, but in reality our hairstyle do play a role in creating the right look. It is when our hairstyle complements our outfits perfectly, that our outfits look well put together. It is something we might forget, but make no mistake. Choosing the right hairstyle can make all the difference.

Outfit Proposal For Rainy Days #1 (How To Style a Black Skater Dress?)

When in doubt, wear black. In the past, I must have been doubt free for I hardly ever reached for black. I was all about colour. I used to abhor all black outfits, but now I'm warming up to them. Today my outfit proposal is almost all black with only touches of brown and grey. I opted for different shades of black, so this outfit isn't  not completely monotone. I don't know if you can see it on the photographs, but this skater dress is made of similar material as the coat, that is, the material is very thick. I bought it in one outlet store and I plan to wear it this Spring as well. I'm pretty sure that I won't be able to wear this dress during the Summer because I would be too warm. I think it is the only skater dress I have in my closet. I do understand the appeal of having lots of little black dresses in one's closet, for they do come in handy, but I only have two or three in mine.

As I said, I was never crazy about black, but it seems that I'm slowly but surely changing my mind. Who knows, maybe in the future you'll see me wearing all black outfits all the time. I have dyed my hair black recently. My natural hair colour is very dark brown (almost black) so it is not a big change but still. How about you? Do you like black outfits? Do you like dark hair? My dream hair colour would look something like this acrylic painting you can see below. Dark blue. But somehow I think that would take both time and effort, so for now I'm sticking with basic black.

skater dress: no name, coat: Tally Weijl, faux fur scarf: no name, shoes: Peko, bag: vintage

Rainy days. Winter is taking its time to leave and I'm not complaining. At least I can still wear my faux fur scarves. I'm even trying to figure out a way to wear them during the Spring/Summer season.  I do love faux fur scarves. While the weather is still like this, we can also wear our faux fur coats. There are some benefits to weather staying on the colder side, at least I'm trying to find some.Besides, the Spring will arrive, sooner or later, right? When weather is rainy and cloudy, we have an excuse to wear ugly beautiful shoes like the ones I have on. I love pointy shoes. I feel like they add something to any look. I might wear these in Spring time anyway. I will probably wear booties and boot until Summer. Some gals have already jumped into their sandals, but I'm not that brave.   I don't feel ready to wear sandals yet.

What about you? How have you been? I have spent all my morning and most of my afternoon painting and illustrating. That usually puts me in a bad mood or maybe it just makes me tired. I finally took the time to look at some fashion shows from the recent fashion shows. I don't illustrate runaway looks all the time, but sometimes I do. Maybe you remember some of my old runaway illustrations. Last year I illustrated quite a few runaway looks and for some reason I often choose to illustrate looks from D&G collections. Today I looked back to these two fashion paintings made with acrylic paints.  Fashion illustrating with acrylic paints is not very common, at least I haven't see it around, but I like it. I feel like it makes the designs look more artistic so I sometimes do it. Not today, though. Today I choose to work only with watercolours.  You'll need to wait to see those watercolours, though. They need to dry and everything.

My acrylic painting originally posted here:

Dolce & Gabbana fashion illustration
My scrylic painting originally posted here:

When I illustrate a look from some collection, I need to look at the video of the show as well to make sure I got all the details right. Illustrating clothes can be tricky for a number of reasons. It is not always possible to get a good idea of a design just by looking at a photograph from some runaway show. You can never see all the details that way. If you want to draw or paint a clothing item, you need to know what kind of material it is made of, how that material falls, what is the texture and all that. That is why I typically watch the fashion collections I plan to illustrate, sometimes even more that once. Obviously, this takes time. So, I don't get to do it that often. This morning and afternoon I have watched and illustrated designs from collections of Chanel,  Louis Vuitton, Dolce & Gabanna, Miu Miu and Stella McCarthey. That was a lot of illustrating and as I said, I feel really drained right now. I won't write about those shows yet. All in due time. Today's post is long enough, I figured. Thank you for reading. Have a lovely weekend everyone.

What I Drew Today (Fashion Illustrations of the Day: Pencil & Something New)

Hello everyone. Today I finally managed to set aside some time for fashion drawing. I don't usually post my art right away, typically I wait for a while before I post it because that gives me an opportunity to reflect on it on my own, but this evening I'm going to make an exception. Today I have made 3 new drawings.  Plus, I've finally finished one of my old drawings ( I already showed you the almost finished version here). So, I'm rather happy because I managed to do some drawing today.

#modaodaradosti #art #editingart

As the title implies, I'm about to share fashion illustration drawn with pencil. Scroll down to see them all. The medium is pencil on paper, hence the illustrations are black and white. However, I decided to give these fashion drawings a twist. This evening I decided to try something new. I played around with Pixlr for a bit and tried my hand at editing my art a bit.

Digital art is not something I tried in earnest. This is not digital art btw, this is just a bit of editing. I think I only tried digital art once or twice. When I was in elementary school, I used to make fashion illustration with MS paint. Well, that was ages ago and since then I pretty much opted for  regular art forms. I do admire digital artists and I can see the 'work' they put into it. I follow enough of them on Instagram do get a good idea of what digital art has to offer. Art is art, digital art offers just as much opportunity for expression as regular art. Still, I  feel like working on paper or canvas with paints or pencil is what works best for me. I quite like the old fashion drawing and painting.

First let me comment on original drawing. I used my own photograph as a reference for this one. I might show it to you some time because this dress is kind of special  (wink wink) but in the meantime let's focus on the drawing. Bridal illustration is not something I tried before, this is only the second wedding dress illustration I made, but I might opt to focus more on it. You know, I think bridal illustrating  might be interesting. Right now I'm planning to give bridal illustrations a try.

What I Drew Today (#Fashion #Illustrations of the Day: #Pencil & Something New)

What I Draw Today (Fashion Illustrations of the Day: Pencil & Something New)

A few words about the drawing as such. It doesn't depict an entire outfit, but it gives you a pretty good idea. It is all about the bow. I love to tie scarves in a bow. So, I illustrated a girl with long hair, wearing an off shoulder dress (or a blouse) completed with a box scarf. The inspiration for this illustrated bow was this outfit of mine. Drawing as such turned out alright in my opinion. I'm not going to comment the edited versions of my drawings, because I still need to give it some thought.

You can see the inspiration for this drawing here. The outfit I illustrated came from my head, but the inspiration for the posture came from  that  outfit post. I like to draw fashion illustrations with a different posture pretty much every time. It is much more difficult that way, but hey I've always loved a challenge. Drawing typical postures is easier, yet you know some people like it hard.

My experience using Pixlr for editing my art was pretty interesting. It is quite time consuming, just as time-consuming as drawing, so it is not something you can use to save time. However, there might be some benefits. For example, using an editing app or a program can help us get some new inspiration or give us an opportunity to reevaluate our art. Naturally, it can also add something to it. I'll also look into copying original designs and multiplying them because that seems like something that could save drawing time and it would still be 'your style'.

Will I consider editing my art again? Why not? BTW this is not a sponsored post, I used Pixlr because that's the first app I though of, I will probably try out others once I find them. Feel free to recommend the editing programs or apps you use. What editing apps do you use? Do you use any?

Do you like the effect the effects I created here or do you think that these drawings looked better before being touched up? Will I edit my art again?  I'll think about it. I'm always looking for way to express my creativity. Feel free to let me know what you think.

( I can't access my Insta account right now so I can't see your messages and comments on this platform, sorry for that, I'm trying to figure out what the problem is)

Fashion illustration of the day- Inspired By Spring (hairstyle/ swimsuit/ colours)

I don't do hairstyle illustration that often, but hairdos are definitely an important part of my fashion illustrations.  When I draw fashion illustration, I do pay attention to hair. Often it is something I will try to coordinate  with an outfit I'm illustrating. Typically, I will pay attention not just to the hairstyle, but to hair colour as well. Some fashion illustrators (be they hobby or professional illustrators) draw only clothes, some (like myself) like to focus on every possible details. I'm a hobby illustrator, but I do put in a lot of effort and time into my fashion illustrations. I like to consider everything. It is quite possible that I will take up hairstyle illustrating as well. It wouldn't be surprisingly since hairstyles are something I enjoy drawing. Today my hairstyle preposition is one for short hair. I have long hair, but I love short hair hairdos.

Where to look for inspiration? I don't need to look far. I'm inspired by everything. Sometimes I find an old drawing and I decide to make new drawings based of it. When I start drawing I usually get tons of idea and one thing leads to another. Right now, I'm mostly inspired by Spring. If you scroll down, you'll see two new drawings (medium coloured pencil on paper), inspired by an old drawing (medium pencil on paper).

I have one more thing to share and that is a swimsuit illustration. At least I think it is a swimsuit illustration. I suppose it could also be seen as a lingerie illustration. Anyhow, it depicts a very classical kind of design that I like a lot.  I didn't use any reference for this illustration, but this design is so common, I can't really say I invented it either. The medium for this one is pencil on paper. Feel free to imagine it in colour if want. Although, if I were to actually sew this design (where does one buy materials for swimsuits?) I would probably opt for black. I'm a big fan of colourful swimsuits, but I also really like the appeal of a classical black two piece swimsuit. Plus, you are less likely to be attacked by a shark that way. Sharks are attracted to vibrant colours. Not that I know why anyone would want to go swimming in shark infested areas. That's all for today! Have a lovely shark free day!

Why Exploring Split City on Foot Makes Perfect Sense? A Visit to Split City During Wintertime

Why Exploring Split City on Foot Makes Perfect Sense?

1. Because walking is always a good way to explore any city.

Think about it. There is only as much you can see from a car or a bus. Public transportation in Split isn't that bad, but it might be confusing for a foreigner who is also a first time visitor. Fortunately, most people speak decent English so you can always ask for help, but still you can't see everything from a bus. If you a tourist, strolling your day away has many benefits.

2. Because Split is very pedestrian friendly city.

Split is a very pedestrian friendly city. Honestly, I don't think you even need a car to explore Split city. Google map (or just grab a free map in the tourist office by the city's cathedral) will be enough for most people. If you find yourself lost, don't hesitate to ask for help/or directions. However, I don't think you have to worry about that. The city is really not that big, so getting lost is not likely.

3. Because  it is the best way to see all the beaches.

Few cities can boost with so many easily reachable beaches and you can just walk from one to another. Most people don't know this, but you can literally walk all the way from Stobrec (a neighbouring city) to Solin (another neighbouring city) by the sea. Enjoying seaside to the maximum makes perfect sense if you are visiting a coastal town, doesn't it? Split is known for its beautiful beaches. Why not get to know all of them?

4. Because some places are only reachable that way.

Marjan hill is a park and you should know that cars are not allowed in all areas of a park. Likewise, the centre of the city is Unesco protected heritage site and again no cars are allowed. In the city centre you have to walk, whether you like it or not. Cycling is also alright. There are no cycling paths but I don't think there is a law against cycling in the city centre. If you like cycling, alternating between walking and cycling might be a nice option.

5. Because the climate in Split city is ideal for strolling.

Split city can boost all the benefits of a typical Mediterranean climate: lots of sunny days, mild winters, warm springs and summers absolutely bathed in sunshine. The chances that you'll visit Split city and not be able to explore it on foot because of harsh weather conditions are very slim, almost non-existent. I mean it does rain sometimes and once in a blue moon there is some snow, but mostly it is as sunny as warm as you would expect a Croatian coastal city to be.

One of the Best Ways To Explore Split City Is On Foot

I do believe that exploring Split city on food is the way to go. Every time I visit Split city, I explore it on foot and I can never get tired of it. These images were taken around Christmas, but as I repeated so many times, Split city is gorgeous even in wintertime. I hope to get a chance to show you around in spring time 2018 as well. I have some visits planned, but as they include a hospital visit, I'm not sure will I be able to take any photographs. Fingers crossed, though. There are two locations in  today's post. One is Zenta bay, the other is the old town i.e. the famous promenade.

Zenta Bay & Marine

Zenta marina is a perfect place to hang out if you like to admire boats. There is also a lovely restaurant there. I dinned there twice, so I think I can recommend it. Unless something has changed drastically since my last visit, and I doubt it has, the food there should be pretty good and the view is simply spectacular. If you don't feel like eating, you can sit down for a cup of coffee. You can also bring your own coffee/tea or whatever, sit on a bench and soak in the sunshine.

There is one more thing that seems to be worth a mention and that is than in immediate vicinity of this place (and when I say immediate vicinity I mean 10 meters) there are tennis courts. This is where tennis player Goran Ivanishevich, the winner of Wimbledon and other famous tennis players trained. I visit this place fairly often and I blogged about it a number of times. So, if you want to know more, see more photographs of this place and so on, you can check out my previous blog posts about Zenta bay & marine :

As you can probably tell by the grin on my face, I love this spot. I love the sea and everything connected to it. Must be why I reach out for Joseph Conrad's works so often. That and his great writing talent. Lately I've gotten this idea into my head to read ALL the works from my favourite writers. Right now I'm reading everything I can find by Chekhov. He's been a favourite of mine for a long time, and the more I read of him, the more I like him. I haven't managed to do as much reading this March as I had planned to, but there is still time. I'm listening to an audio book by Herman Hesse at the moment. I'm also reading one science fiction novel. What are you reading at the moment?

As it as a well know fact, Split city's famous old centre is actually a palace build by ancient Roman emperor Diocletian. When he decided to retire, he choose this lovely area to build his palace. Who could blame him? I tell you, those Roman emperors of old had a fabulous sense of style.

The port is right new to the famous promenade, so if you're into ferry watching (is there such a thing or is it me?) then this place is perfect for that. Personally, I love watching ferries so I just love to hang out here. If you are looking for some Instagram worthy places the famous promenade known as Riva is the probably the perfect choice. It has palm trees and everything.

Anyway, as I said, beaches in Split are quite stunning. We left of at Zenta and if you keep scrolling down, you'll see me in the city's port. How to get there? Well,f you keep walking by the sea, after Zenta, you'll come to Ovcica bay, then to famous Bacvice sand beach and the next stop is the port and the old city. Everything is connected and you can walk everywhere! I love it.

I totally freak out when people ask me about shopping malls in Split. Are you kidding me? You come to 2000 years old city (even older if we count the settlement that predates  ancient Romans) and you go to a shopping mall? No, people, no, no, no.  When you come to a city that is 2000 years old, you shouldn't go to a shopping mall, you should go to see the ruins and the museums and so on. What's with going to shopping malls anyway? Aren't they all the same, with the same generic brands? What's the point?

The only reason why I ever go to shopping malls is to eat. If there is a fabulous restaurant, I might consider going there. I still haven't been to the 'new' shopping mall in Split and I have no intention of going there. So, don't ask me what it's like. I don't know and I couldn't care less. When I visit Split, I tend to look for more cultural content & educating activities, if you know what I mean.

Now, a few words about this outfit. To be honest, I wasn't trying to make a fashion statement with this one. I was just trying to keep warm and cozy for my long walk by the sea. As I said, these photographs were shot around Christmas. I'm pretty sure it was Advent time, because that's the only time you can see these little houses placed here. I had planned to blog about Advent in Split city but it will have to wait next year ( I have a visit planned then). I did blogged about Advent in Split in 2015 if I record well, so you can check that post here. Sorry about wearing no make up (again), but that's the way it was. I did enjoy this walk a great deal. How do you like Split city? Would you like to visit it?
